Holgate, Norton, Udel claim All-UAA honors at outdoor track championships

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Brandeis men's track and field team had a trio of All-Conference performances at the 2010 University Athletic Association Outdoor championships at Washington University. The Judges finished in seventh place with 35 points.

Junior Paul Norton (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) was named All-Association for the fourth time this season, finishing second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:19.47, just over a second out of first place. Norton, the Performer of the Year at the Indoor championships, won the 3K and also placed second in the 5K indoors, while finishing as the runner up at the association cross-country championships.

Senior Aaron Udel (Dalton, Mass./Waconah Regional) earned All-Association honors for the second time this year in the 800-meter run. After placing third in the event indoors, Udel took second outdoors in an extremely close race. He finished 0.37 seconds behind the champion and just nine-hundredths of a second ahead of the bronze medalist.

Rounding out the All-Association performances for the Judges was junior Devon Holgate (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland). Holgate, who was a member of the conference-champion distance medley relay team indoors, earned his first individual All-UAA honor in the 1,500-meter run. He placed third with a time of 3:57.69 after finishing fourth in the event indoors. Holgate shaved three seconds off his season-best time and was just over six-tenths of second out of a silver medal.
