BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Brandeis University men's track and field team had three different victors at the 2012 Bowdoin College Five-Way meet on Saturday, Jan. 14. The Judges also had one other second-place performance to finish in fourth place with 38 points.
Sophomore standout Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Arts Imagination and Inquiry) provided half of the Judges' scoring performances. In his first sprint of the season at 60 meters after three races at 5, Asante placed second in his heat in the preliminaries with a time of 7.21 seconds, 0.02 behind Kyle LeBlanc of host Bowdoin. In the finals, Asante bounced back with a time of 7.15 seconds in the finals, besting LeBlanc by 0.06 seconds. Asante also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.57 seconds, about a quarter of a second out of the top spot.
Rookie Jeffrey Maser (Livingston, N.J./Morristown Beard School) earned his first collegiate victory in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters (6 feet, 4 inches) in the high jump. Maser's height is tied for 19th in the most recent NCAA Division III rankings. Rounding out the Brandeis victors was senior Chris Brown (No. Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), who captured the mile run with a time of 4:24.49, two-and-a-half seconds ahead of a host of Bowdoin runners. Brown did not improve his season-best time, but still ranks 13th nationally in the event.
