GRINNELL, Iowa -- Brandeis senior Chris Brown (No. Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) has established himself as the favorite in the mile run at the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championships at Grinnell College. Brown, who was seeded third in the mile headed into the meet, qualified for tomorrow's final by winning his heat with a time of 4:12.57. Not only did Brown edge second-place finisher Kevin McCarthy of Wartburg College by seventeen one-hundredths of a second, he established a new facility record at Grinnell's Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center by just under half a second. McCarthy finished second in the mile at the 2011 NCAA championships.

Brown will compete in the mile run championship race tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Central/4:30 Eastern. Classmate Kate Warwick (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) will run at 5 Central/6 Eastern in the 5,000-meter run, the last individual event of the meet.
