Sidique scores in three events as men take 10th at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Brandeis University men's track and field team placed 10th out of 14 teams that scored points today at the Tufts Winter Invitational. The Judges finished with 26 points.

Senior Mo Sidique (Harlem, N.Y./St. Raymond's School for Boys) led the way for the Judges, scoring 15 of the team's points. His best finish was in the triple jump. Competing for the first time this year in the event that saw him win two UAA crowns and All-America honors outdoors, Sidique finished in second place with a distance of 13.16 meters. Junior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H./Concord) added a sixth-place finish in the event with a leap of 12.64 meters.

Sidique added a third-place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.41, just over a quarter of a second out of second place. He also finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.02 meters.

Brandeis also got three scoring performances from their distance runners. In the 3,000-meter run, rookie Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) edged senior teammate Jarret Harrigan (Ipswich, Mass./St. Johns Prep) for sixth place, 8:59.31 to 9:00.30. Rookie Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) rounded out the scorers with a seventh-place finish in the mile run, posting a time of 4:21.19, 0.02 seconds ahead of a runner from the University of Connecticut.

Brandeis returns to action next Saturday at Smith College.
