Franklin ranked fourth in UAA in HJ after performance at Tufts

BOSTON and MEDFORD, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field teams took part in two meets over the weekend. The women ran at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Friday, Jan. 30, while the men split at the Terrier Classic and the Tufts Stampede on Saturday, Jan. 31.

On the men's side, the Judges had a handful of notable performances with their split squad. At Tufts, sophomore Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H. / Pinkerton Acad.) moved into fourth place in the UAA in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches), also a Division III New England championship qualifying height. A pair of rookies turned in career-bests as well, with Max Whitmore (Wayne, N.J./Newark Acad.) going 4:29.36 in the mile and Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) going 9:08.09 in the 3,000 meters.  

Meanwhile, at Boston University, rookie Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) qualified for the Division III New England Championships and ECACs in the 3K as well, running a personal best of 8:48.47. 

Junior jumper Adam Berger (Concord, N.H./Concord) jumped a season best of 6.17 meters (20 feet, 3 inches) in the long jump  and a season best of 12.71 meters (41 feet, 8 ½ inches) in the triple jump. Both distances are good for 10th place in the UAA this season.

Finally, in the mile run, senior Greg Bray (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) ran a career best of 4:25.17, while rookie Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) ran a season best of  4:26.02. They are ranked 11th and 12th in the UAA. 

The Judges return to Tufts next weekend for the Tufts Invitational.
