CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) claimed All-New England honors today with a top-eight performance in the mile run at the New England Division III Championships held at MIT.

Stender ran his second-fastest college mile with a time of 4:29.43. Stender had an excellent finish to the race, increasing his pace in the second half-mile to 2:02 after running 2:27 over the first four laps. He is the first Brandeis All-New England runner since 2013 for the men. Stender's time was seven seconds off his best time of the season, and he will enter next weekend's University Athletic Association championships ranked ninth in the event.

Also competing for the Judges at the New England Division III championships junior Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Acad.) placed 15th in the high jump with a height of 1.84 meters, 6 feet and one-half inch. He was an inch-and-a-half off his lifetime best mark.

Also, rookie Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) placed 17th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28 seconds. Charie is ranked ninth in the UAA in the 200.

Stender's seventh-place finish earned the Judges two points and a tie for 24th place at the New England Division III Championships.

Several Judges who did not run today will compete tomorrow at a USATF event in Boston in preparation for next weekend's University Athletic Association championships at the Armory in New York City, hosted by NYU.
