Gourde earns ECAC Division III New England Track Athlete of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Irie Gourde of Portland, Ore., has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Runner of the Week.

Competing at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday afternoon, Gourde broke a school record that had stood since 1979 when he ran 21.95 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Gourde won his heat against and finished second among Division III competitors in the event, 15th overall out 225 runners.

Gourde also turned in a time of 48.68 seconds in the 400-meter dash, which was second in his heat and 22nd overall. Both times are the fastest in the University Athletic Association this season and 18th- and 15th-fastest in Division III this season, respectively.

Gourde and the Judges will head to the New England Division III Championships this weekend at Tufts University before playing host the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 25 and 26.

Gourde is a 2013 graduate of the York School, Toronto, Canada.
