WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field team competed in a pair of meets in their warm-up for hosting next weekend's University Athletic Association championships.

Two runners went to the Fast Track Last Chance Meet at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. It was there that the race of the weekend was run, as senior Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) lowered her own school record in the mile run. Competing against Division I, II and III competition, Bryson won the race in 4:45.58, lowering her school record set by 1.10 seconds. The time is the fifth-fastest in Division III women's history. Bryson's next closest competitor at the meet, from the University of Pennsylvania, was just under three full seconds behind.

Also running at that meet was rookie Jac Guerra (Milford, Conn./Milford), who placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.01.

The rest of the team competed at the USATF New England Indoor Championship at Harvard on Sunday.  It was a non-scoring meet with a host of unaffiliated competitors.

Among the team's personal-bests were a couple of men's field performers. Rookie Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) had a long jump of 6.11 meters (20–½)while classmate Jeremiah Fantroy (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) went 11.47 meters (37-7 ¾) in the 35-pound weight throw, winning his flight.

Senior Lorenzo Maddox (Atlanta, Ga./Maynard Jackson) just missed his personal best in the 60-meter dash, running 7.27 in the prelims and 7.22 in the finals, 0.02 off his top time. Maddox was the only collegiate to reach the finals, finishing seventh. Junior Daniel Curley (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) also just missed a PR in the 3,000-meter, running 9:00.88, the top college mark of the meet.

For the women, rookie Sonali Anderson (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater) jumped 4.37 meters (14-4) in her first collegiate long jump competition.
