WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University track and field team competed at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The men scored 39 points and finished in 11th place overall, while the women were in 15th place with 11 points.
The men had seven scoring performances, including a pair of dual scorers in field events. Senior Scott Grote (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) was one of two second-place finishers at the meet, tossing the discus a season-best 48.00 meters (157-6), which is ranked 18th on the Division III leaderboard. Grote also placed eighth in the shot put with a heave of 12.30 meters (40-4 ¼).
Also earning a second-place finish was junior Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional), who finished with a total of 5520 points, which is ranked 29th nationally. Allan won the high jump at 1.84 meters (6-0 ½) and was second in the long jump at 6.29 meters (20-7 ¼).
The team's other multiple scorer was sophomore Breylen Ammen (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional), who placed third in the pole vault (4.25m, 13-11 ¼) and sixth in the javelin (46.55m, 152-9). Ammen was joined by sophomore Aaron Corin (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) in the top eight of the pole vault Corin took fourth with a height of 4.10 meters (13-5 ¼).
The men's lone individual scorer on the track was senior Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), who was eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12 seconds. He also just missed scoring in the 200 with a time of 22.76 seconds, 0.14 out of eighth. Rookie Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest) also just missed scoring in the 110-meter hurdles, taking ninth by one-hundredth of a second in 16.26 seconds.
The Judges also had a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, with rookie Aaron Portman (Wheeling, Ill./Adlai Stevenson), rookie Jamie O'Neil (Auburndale, Mass./Newton North), sophomore Patrick Quinlan (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) and junior Erez Needleman (Bronx, N.Y. / High School of American Studies at Lehman College) finishing in a time of 3:29.67.

She was fourth individually in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.70 seconds. that mark broke her own school record, set the previous week of 15.74 seconds. In establishing a new record, Anderson wiped out a mark that had previously been jointly held by Jeanine Boutin '78 and Eleena Zhelezov '95.
She also ran the anchor leg of the eighth-place 4x400-meter relay. The other legs were run by sophomores Leinni Valdez and Lisbeth Valdez (Providence, R.I./Hope) and senior Maya Bliss (Williamsburg, Mass./Amherst Regional).
Senior Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) ran in an off-distance, competing at 800-meters, where she turned in a fourth-place finish in 2:16.95, which is 41st on the Division III list.
The Judges had one notable field performance, as rookie Kerry Tanke (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), also of the basketball team, placed ninth in the javelin throw in her second collegiate meet with a heave of 31.98 meters (104-11).
Brandeis also sent senior Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) to run the 800-meters against Division I competition at the Ocean State Invitational at Providence College. She placed seventh in her heat and 28th overall with a time of 2:21.01.
