Grote places 13th in discus

GENEVA, OHIO – Brandeis University senior Scott Grote (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) concluded his track and field career with the Judges today by finishing 13th in the discus throw at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Grote's best throw was 47.00 meters (154 feet, two inches), coming on his second of three attempts. He missed a trip to the finals by five feet, placing sixth in his flight. Grote entered the meet as the 19th seed, improving by six places. He was Brandeis's first discus competitor at nationals since Hall of Famer Greg Steelman '90 went more than 30 years ago.

The Judges will be represented at nationals with two more competitors today, as senior Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) goes for a ninth All-America honor and fourth national championship as the top seed in the 1,500-meter run preliminaries at 3:55 p.m. Rookie Jac Guerra (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase prelims tonight at 5:25 p.m.

Senior Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) will compete in the 800-meter prelims tomorrow at 4 p.m.
