Driben breaks 15 minutes in 5K at BU

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis Track and Field teams competed over the weekend in a nonscoring contest in the David Hemery Valentine's Invitational at Boston University in Boston, MA. The women competed on Friday and the men competed on Saturday against Division I and III competition.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS

  • Senior Matthew Driben (Reading, Pa. / Wyomissing Area) broke a personal record in the 5000m with a remarkable time of 14:51.87. It handily breaks his own team season-best mark of 15:05.30, set two weeks ago. As of February 11th, this is the 2nd best time in the UAA this season, and just misses out on the top 50 in Division III this season.

  • In the 800-meter run, junior Samuel Kim (La Jolla, Calif. / Phillips Exeter (N.H.) set a personal record time of 1:54.90. This is the 4th best time in the UAA this season.

  • In the 400-meter dash, first-year Leo Schiappa (Wareham, Mass. / Old Rochester Regional) set a team season-best and personal record time of 52.74.

TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMERS

  • In the 400-meter dash, junior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) recorded a team season-best time of 59.48 seconds. As of February 11th, this was the 5th best time in the UAA. Senior Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North) also had an impressive race, setting a personal record with 1:00.63 seconds. This is the 7th best time in the UAA.

  • In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) set a personal record, finishing with a team season-best time of 26.47 seconds. This was 10th best in the UAA this season.

  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Lapa, Korn, senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, MA / North Quincy) and sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos ) set a team season-high, finishing with a time of 4:06.76.

  • In the mile, senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) set a personal record and team season-high of 5:19.88. First-year Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) finished just behind with a time of 5:23.39.
