WALTHAM, Mass. – Two seniors from the Brandeis University men's cross country teams have earned All-New England honors at the 2011 NCAA Division III New England regional championships at Bowdoin College today by finishing among the top 35. Marc Boutin of Westford, Mass., was the team's top finisher in 21st place, while Chris Brown of No. Chelsmford, Mass., was 27th.
For Boutin and Brown, 2011 marks the fourth year in a row that they have earned All-New England honors. Boutin did finish five spots behind his 2010 performance in 21st place, though his time of 25:16.65 for the eight-kilometer course was nearly a minute faster than last year. Similarly, Brown's 27th-place performance was down three places despite running a minute faster than a year ago in 25:21.64.
Also placing in the top 50 for the men were junior Alex Kramer (No. Andover, Mass./No. Andover), who was 46th with a time of 25:41.37, and sophomore Ed Colvin (Roslindale, Mass./Catholic Memorial School), who was 49th with a time of 25:45.49. It was Kramer's first time running at regionals, while Colvin was down 11 spots from 2010. Sophomore Taylor Dundas (Bath, Maine/Cheverus) completed the top five runners in 59th place with a time of 25:57.37.
The Brandeis men placed seventh overall, and were unable to qualify for a fourth-straight NCAA championship berth.
