PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Brandeis University men's cross country finished in eighth place at the 2013 University Athletic Association championships held at Carnegie Mellon University today. The Judges finished with 243 points, 70 behind seventh-place Case Western Reserve.

      Still without top runner Ed Colvin (Roslindale, Mass./Catholic Memorial School), the Judges were led for the third time in five races this season by junior Jarret Harrigan (Ipswich, Mass./St. John's Prep). Harrigan came in 47^th overall, covering the eight-kilometer race in 26:53.5. Harrigan improved by four places over his 2012 performance at UAAs.

      Rookie Quinton Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) was the team's second finisher, coming 50^th overall in his first UAA experience with a time of 26:58.9. Sophomore Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) finished third for the Judges, with a time of 27:19.1, good for 61^st place. Ward improved by 15 places in the standings and by more than a minute by time.

Junior Michael Rosenbach (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) was 67^th overall with a time of 27:30, while rookie Daniel Leon (New York, N.Y./Bronx H.S. of Science) was the squad's final scorer in 74^th place with a time of 29:53.7.

This marked the second year in a row that the Judges finished in eighth place. Washington University, second-ranked in Division III, turned in one of the lowest totals in UAA meet history with 26 points to win the race, followed by #7 NYU with 50 points and #14 Chicago with 80.

      Brandeis will compete next in two weeks at the NCAA Division III Championship Qualifiers at the University of Southern Maine.
