Men's cross country comes in 23rd at New Englands

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Brandeis University men's cross country team finished its 2018 season at the New England Division III Regional Championships today at Bowdoin College. The Judges placed 23rd out of 58 teams with 706 points.

Running in his home state of Maine, Brandeis sophomore Josh Lombardo (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) was the team's top finisher for the fifth time this season. Lombardo placed 100th overall with a time of 27:03.36. This was his first trip to New Englands.

Right behind Lombardo was junior co-captain Dan Curley (Norwood, Mass./Norwood), who finished in 102nd place with a time of 27:05.15. Curley had a similar finish in 2017 at New Englands, when he finished in 101st place with a time about six seconds slower. His time today was Curley's third-fastest of his college career over eight kilometers. He had been the team's third runner in each of the previous meets this season.

Rookie Matthew Driben (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing), who had been running second, placed third on the team and 133rd overall with a time of 27:30.29. Driben cut about 30 seconds off his time from the previous meet at UAAs.

Classmate Simon Powley (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) improved into the team's fourth spot, where he had not been since the second week of the season, Powley finished in 161st place with a time of 28:11.97, the second-fastest of his collegiate career.

Sophomore Eric Rosenheim (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) rounded out the top five runners for the Judges, finishing in 212th place with a time of 28:54.31. It marked the third time this season Rosenheim has been among the team's top five scorers.

Junior Erez Needleman (Bronx, N.Y./ H.S. of American Studies at Lehman College) rounded out the Brandeis competitors with his first showing at New Englands, placing 236th with a time of 29:23.40.
