Murdy returns to win Wellesley Invitational, leads men to victory

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis cross country teams got two individual victories and one team win at their season-opening meet, the Wellesley Invitational.

On the men's side, the Judges had the top three finishers and five of the top 10, as they cruised to a 22-45 win over Wentworth.

Junior Mark Murdy (Plantsville, Conn. / Southington) had a successful return to running after a year out injured as he won the five-kilometer race with a time of 16:42.6. Rookie Casey Brackett (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) turned in a second-place finish with a time of 16:56.9, while senior Alec Rogers (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) earned bronze in 17:00.9. Seniors Dan Curley (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) and Jacob Judd (West Hartford, Conn. / Conard) rounded out the scorers for the Judges with times of 17:12.7 and 18:05.0, placing fifth an 10th, respectively.

On the women's side, the Judges were edged out of the team standings by host Wellesley, 27-31. Brandeis junior Andrea Bolduc (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) picked up the second individual win of the afternoon finishing with a time of 18:59.2 over the five-kilometer course. The win was the first of Bolduc's collegiate career. The Judges alternated at the next five spots with host Wellesley. Sophomore Erin Magill (South Duxbury, Vt. / Harwood Union) took the third spot in 19:26.2, while senior Danielle Bertaux (Prides Crossing, Mass. / Beverly) was fifth with a time of 19:41.4. Rookie Bridget Packard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) and sophomore Natalie Hattan (Sugar Land, Texas / Fort Bend Clement) finished out the scoring with times of 20:07.8 and 20:38.7 to take 10th and 12th places, respectively.

Brandeis is back in action on Sept. 21st  at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
