WALTHAM, Mass. – Framingham State College junior shortstop
Christina Sullivan (Weymouth, Mass.) went 2-3 with a double and
scored three of her team's four runs today as the Rams upended the
host Brandeis University Judges, 4-1, on Marcus Field.
Framingham State (7-10) jumped on top in the second inning with a
two-out rally. Rookie 2B Kate Pacheco (Acushnet, Mass.) walked and
Sullivan reached on an error and stole second in front of rookie 3B
Colleen Clancy (Lynn, Mass.). Clancy delivered a two-run single to
right that would be all the scoring the visitors would need.
Brandeis (11-14) got one run back in the third with a two-out rally
of their own. Senior outfielder Elissa Glucksman (Stamford, Conn.)
singled and sophomore CF Amelia Schimmel (Oakland, Calif.) walked.
Sophomore pitcher Natalie Volpe (Southington, Conn.) reached on an
error to right field that allowed Glucksman to come home.
FSC added solo runs in the fourth and sixth. In both frames,
Sullivan was bunted to third by Clancy and scored on a mishap by
the Brandeis catcher, a wild pitch in the fourth and passed ball in
the sixth. The Judges loaded the bases with two outs in both the
sixth and seventh, but could not come up with the big hit to cut
into the lead.
Brandeis had a pair of multiple hitter. Glucksman went 2-4 with a
run scored, while senior Mari Levine (Hopkinton, Mass.) was 2-4
with a double, the team's only extra-base hit. Volpe suffered the
loss despite just one earned run, going the distance. She allowed
five hits and both struck out and walked five to fall to 3-8 on the
season.
Rams sophomore Kelly Knox (Framingham, Mass.) picked up the win,
allowing two hits and one unearned run in four innings of work. She
struck out three and walked one. Junior DeAnna Curtis (Lakeville,
Mass.) earned her first save of the season with three innings of
action. She gave up four hits and walked three, but stranded seven
Brandeis runners.
Today's game was scheduled to be a doubleheader, but game two was
cancelled because of the rain.
