Streilein leads softball back over .500 with 6-0 shutout of Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.) pitched a shutout and scored three runs on offense to spark Brandeis University to a 6-0 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference softball action Wednesday.

Streilein led off the game with a solo home run to give the Judges (17-16) an instant lead. She added two singles and scored two more times later in the game as Brandeis won its second straight game and third in the last four. Senior Marissa Rubin (Teaneck, N.J.) and rookie Chelsea Korp (Worcester, Mass.) each had a hit and two runs batted in for the Judges.

Streilein (4-5) was strong in the circle as well, scattering five hits and striking out five for the victory. Salve Regina (16-15) had just one runner get as far as third base in the game.

Senior Kristi Jagiello (Everett, Mass.) and freshman Alicia Ferri (Pasadena, Calif.) each doubled and singled for the Seahawks. Freshman Sarah Jakiela (Meriden, Conn.), who had a single at the plate, struck out five batters while picking up the loss.

Salve Regina returns to action at Endicott College on Friday, April 27 (3:30 p.m.). Brandeis hosts Salem State on Thursday, April 26 (4 p.m.).
