WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University softball team struck for five home runs, including two from senior catcher Christina McWilliams (Billerica, Mass.) in the second game, as the Judges swept St. Joseph's College, 9-0 and 12-2, in a doubleheader on Marcus Field today.

Brandeis (6-8) won its third and fourth straight contests. McWilliams was the big hitter on the day for the Judges, going 3-3 with three runs scored and six RBI in the second game of the twin-bill. Brandeis had five other multi-hit performances and three others with multi-RBI games.

Three different players went deep in the first contest. Junior pitcher Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.) led off the bottom of the first inning with her first blast of the season, igniting a five-run frame. Rookie 1B Allie Mussen (Franklin Square, N.Y.) added a two-run shot in the third inning, the first of her collegiate career, while junior 2B Dani Mayer (Larkspur, Calif.) blasted her team-leading fourth round-tripper of the season.

In the second game, St. Joseph's (3-9) got on the board in the top of the first inning. The first three batters of the game bunted, with two reaching on hits and the third sacrificing them to second and third. Junior DP Megan Farrell (Abington, Mass.) plated rookie RF Anna Willis (Gorham, Maine) to give the Monks a 1-0 lead.

Brandeis answered in the bottom of the second, sending 11 hitters to the plate and scoring seven runs. Streilein plated two runs in the inning with a one-out single. McWilliams went deep in the third to give the hosts an 8-1 lead, but Farrell answered in the top of the fourth with a huge blast to left-center field that actually hit the wheels of a passing MBTA commuter rail train. The Judges put the contest away in the bottom of the inning when McWilliams hit her second homer of the day, a grand slam to almost the identical spot as her first blast.

In addition to McWilliams's big game, Mayer finished the day 2-3 with two walks, four runs scored and two RBI. Mussen was 2-4 with a pair of walks, four runs scored and three RBI. Streilein picked up the victory in the circle in game one, allowing five hits and striking out six while walking none in a five-inning complete game. She improved to 2-4 on the campaign. Junior Natalie Volpe (Southington, Conn.) struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on four hits in the second contest, moving to 2-1.

SJC was paced by Farrell, who was 3-4 in the two games with one run and two RBI. Willis and sophomore CF Aly Ludwig (Waldoboro, Maine) were the only other multiple hitters for the Monks, each going 2-5 on the day.
