Softball sweeps Amherst and continues the win streak

WALTHAM, Mass. Brandeis University senior pitcher Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.)won the first game of the doubleheader surrendering only one run in claiming her 10th win of the season. She struck out four in a complete game performance. She also came through with a two-run home run, her fifth of the season, in the fourth inning to give the team a comfortable lead.

Amherst came out strong in the second game, scoring five runs in the first two innings, including a home run from Senior Elizabeth Neckes.

Brandeis starting pitcher, Sophomore Allie Mussen, was relieved after just one and one third innings of work by Senior Natalie Volpe who pitched the next four innings until Streilein was called in to finish the last inning.

With the Judges down by three runs entering the seventh inning, Sophomore Chelsea Korp led off with a solo home-run, her second of the season. A couple quick outs followed, but Streilein provided another home-run, her second of the day and sixth of the season to drop the lead to just one run. Consecutive hits by freshman Danielle Lavallee and Junior Samantha Worth, plus a walk by Sophomore Erin Ross set the stage for Senior Natalie Volpe who stepped up to hit the go ahead single to win the game and continue the win streak to 12 straight games.
