WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior pitcher Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.) won both ends of a doubleheader today, holding visiting Salve Regina to just five hits in 12 innings, as the Judges swept, 1-0 and 3-0. With the victories, Brandeis has won 10 straight games, tying the 1984 squad for the longest winning streak in school history.

Pitching dominated game one, as Brandeis (16-7-1) had just four hits and Salve Regina mustered just two. The game's only run came in the fourth inning. Salve sophomore Sara Jakiela (Meridan, Conn.) retired the first two batters, but Streilein followed with the Judges' first hit. After senior RF Natalie Volpe (Southington, Conn.) walked, rookie 3B Danielle Lavallee (Sutton, Mass.) lined a double off the left-field wall to drive Streilein home from second.

The Seahawks got only one runner past second base. In the sixth inning, junior 2B Sarah Ramsey (Muncie, Pa.), who had walked in her two previous plate appearances, singled through the right side. She was bunted to second and went to third on a ground out, but Streilein stranded her at third on a come-backer to the circle.

Streilein finished the game with seven strikeouts and two walks, allowing two hits to improve to 8-3 on the season. It marked the fifth time this season she has held an opponent to two hits or less. Jakiela also had a fine performance in the losing effort, also fanning seven. She walked three and gave up two hits, with the Judges getting two more in the sixth against senior Jennifer Sousa (E. Providence, R.I.).

The fourth inning was the key in game two as well, as Brandeis registered four of their five hits in the frame. With one out, sophomore catcher Erin Ross (Manalapan, N.J.) and Streilein stroked back-to-back doubles off SRU rookie pitcher Nicole Whitney (Contoocook, N.H.). Streilein moved to third when the cutoff got away and came home on a suicide squeeze play that Volpe beat out for a single. Volpe moved to second on a groundout and scored on a single to right field by junior LF Samantha Worth (Londonderry, N.H.).

Streilein took over from there. She allowed just three hits in five innings of the second contest, striking out two and walking none, to move to 9-3. Volpe pitched the last two innings, striking out three of the six batters she faced to earn her first save of the season. Whitney suffered the loss, falling to 0-5 on the campaign.
