Miller named UAA, NEISCA Pitcher of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis University rookie pitcher Caroline Miller of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., has been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) and New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 5.

Miller went 3-0 for the Judges with a 0.37 ERA in a 5-1 week. In 19 innings of work, she allowed six runs, just one of which was earned, striking out 11 and walking three. She got a no-decision in an 8-3 win over WPI on April 1, allowing just two hits in three innings of work. The next day, Miller topped Framingham State College, 8-1, with a complete-game three-hitter, allowing her only earned run of the week and striking out seven.

Miller then won both ends of a double-header with Bowdoin on April 5. She tossed a complete-game in the opener, allowing nine hits and four unearned runs in a 7-4 victory. In the nightcap, she picked up the win in relief, allowing two hits and one unearned run in a 5-4 extra-inning affair. Miller also batted .500 (5-10) with two RBI and two runs scored, including a home run in the win over WPI in her third collegiate at-bat.

Overall this season, Miller leads the Judges with a 7-2 record and a 1.78 earned run average. She has 41 strikeouts and 17 walks in 59 innings pitched. Brandeis owns a record of 13-9, including a 10-2 mark in New England. They went 3-5 at the UAA tournament to finish in fourth place.

Miller is a 2008 graduate of Harriton High School. She is the daughter of Phil and Cathy Miller, Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
