ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brandeis softball team dropped its final University Athletic Association game of the season this afternoon, falling by an 8-0 decision at Washington University. The Judges fall to 11-16 overall and end the UAA season with a 4-9 record, while the Bears improve to 22-11 overall and 8-4 in the UAA with four games against NYU left on the schedule.

WashU got all the scoring they would need in the bottom of the first inning, with four runs on just one hit, as the Judges committed four errors in the frame.

Meanwhile, Bear starter Maggie Clapp retired the first eight Brandeis hitters before junior CF Amanda Shore (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) bounced one through the right side for the team's first hit.

The hosts scored again in the third on an RBI double by catcher Halle Steinberg. Brandeis's only runner to reach second base came in the top of the fifth when rookie Caroline Sippin (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) singled up the middle with one out. She moved to second on a wild pitch, but was erased at third on a comebacker to Clapp in the circle.

Washington U. closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs, with Mikaela Arredono delivering an RBI double and Taylor Arends delivered the walk-off hit.

The Judges return home for non-conference action next week, playing two at Clark University on Tuesday afternoon before their home finale on Wednesday against Worcester State.
