WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Keren Khromchenko of Manalapan, New Jersey, and junior Scottie Todd of Tampa, Florida, have been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 7th.
Khromchenko was honored as the UAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. She was undefeated for the 18th-ranked Judges at #2 doubles and #3 singles as the team went 3-0, including wins over two higher-ranked opponents. In doubles action, she teamed with junior Diana Dehterevich of Minsk, Belarus, for an 8-7 (8-6) win over Wellesley, 8-4 over NYU and 8-5 over Skidmore. In singles, she outlasted Selina Peng of Wellesley, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5; Rupa Ganesh of NYU, 6-1, 6-1; and Renee Karchere-Sun of Skidmore, 6-7, 6-4, 10-8. The Judges won the first match over Wellesley, 9-0, last Friday, then defeated 15th-ranked NYU, 6-3, on Saturday, and 13th-ranked Skidmore by the same score on Sunday. With the wins, the Judges improved to 9-4 on the season.
For her career, Khromchenko was a second-team All-UAA selection at #3 singles as a sophomore. She is a three-time Academic All-Association team member who was recently selected Phi Beta Kappa.
Todd was selected as the UAA Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time in her career. In one start against Wellesley on April 3 and two against UAA rivals NYU on April 6 and 7, Todd threw three complete games, allowing just one earned run in each for a 1.00 ERA. She struck out 10 and walked seven, allowing 15 hits for a .197 batting average against. The Judges won those games by scores of 4-2, 3-1 and 3-1. In addition to her success in the circle, Todd served as the team's designated player in games she was not pitching, posting a .368/.478/.632 slash line and hitting safely in four of six games as she went 7-19 with two walks. Her top performances were a 3-4 game with a double and 2 RBI in a 9-1 win over NYU in Game Two of the four-game series, followed by hitting the game-winning three-run home run in Game 4 as the Judges erased a 3-1 deficit with two outs and nobody on in the top of the seventh inning. With the wins, the Judges improved to 15-0-1 on the season, the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history and their best-ever start. The four-game sweep of NYU was the team's first UAA four-game series win since conference games moved on campus three years ago.
For her career, Todd owns a 23-13 record with a 1.58 ERA, the lowest in school history. She is a .383 career hitter with six home runs and 35 RBI.
Khromchenko is a 2015 graduate of the Academy of Allied Health and Sciences.
Todd is a 2016 graduate of Strawberry Crest High School.
