PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Brandeis University softball team suffered just its second loss of the season today as the Judges were on the wrong end of a 2-1 University Athletic Association (UAA) contest at Carnegie Mellon University today. The Judges fall to 22-2-1, 7-2 in the UAA, while the Tartans improve to 10-19, 3-10 UAA.

In a duel of two pitchers with the same name, it was CMU's Scottie McGee who came out on top of Brandeis's Scottie Todd (Tampa, Fla./Strawberry Crest). McGee held the Judges hitless through the first six innings allowing only three walks while striking out seven to improve to 6-7 on the season. Todd held Carnegie Mellon to four hits with two walks and three Ks, falling to 10-2.

CMU got both of their runs in the bottom of the first. With one out, shortstop Megan Hu hit an infield single to third, while DP Io Jette-Kouri sent one through the right side to put runners on the corners. Jette-Kouri stole second to put both players in scoring position, which paid off when Piper Johnson's grounder to short was thrown away, allowing both runs to score. Todd would allow just two more hits the rest of the way.

McGee held the Judges at bay until the seventh inning, when Todd helped her own cause by leading off with a double down the leftfield line. Rookie 3B Marley Felder (Miami, Fla./American Heritage) followed with a two-bagger of her own to the same spot, plating senior pinch runner Marysa Massoia (Feeding Hills, Mass./Suffield Academy). McGee was able to strand Felder at second, however, inducing three-straight fly outs to secure the win.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but rain washed out the second game. The squad will play three contests on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
