WALTHAM, Mass. – Two members of the Brandeis University softball team have earned All-New England honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Junior pitcher Scottie Todd of Tampa, Florida, was a first-team All-Region selection, while sophomore shortstop Jolie Fujita of Honolulu, Hawaii, was second-team choice.
Todd earns her third-straight All-New England selection, having earned third-team honors as a rookie and sophomore. This season, she was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-UAA. She finished third in the conference in ERA at 2.13 and tied for third in wins with 13, posting a 13-5 record. Her 68 strikeouts were fourth in the league. Todd was also a threat for the Judges at the plate, tying for second in the league in home runs (6). She was also third in slugging percentage (.635) and ninth in on-base percentage (.445). She was 12th with a .375 batting average and drove in a 27 runs, leading the team and finishing eighth in the league. As a first-team All-Region selection, Todd is now eligible for All-America honors.
Fujita finished sixth in the league in batting with a .398 average. She led the Judges in hits (49), at bats (123) and runs (35) and was second to Todd in RBI (26). Fujita was third in the league in runs, fifth in hits, and 10th in RBI. She also placed seventh in slugging percentage (.577). Fujita hit safely in 25 of 37 games this season, with multiple hits in 15 of them. She drove in runs in 15 games as well, including a pair of four RBI games early in the season, and scored runs in 25 contests.
The Brandeis softball team put together one of the most successful seasons in school history, going 29-7-1 and earning their second-ever NCAA tournament berth. The Judges dropped their tournament opener, but won two more games before the remainder of their regional was cancelled because of rain. Their 29 victories were tied for second-most in a single season in program history, as the Judges climbed to #20 in the nation on the strength of a program-best 15-0-1 start. Head coach Danielle DelPonte and her staff were named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the team to a second-place finish in the conference.
Todd is a 2016 graduate of Strawberry Crest High School.
Fujita is a 2017 graduate of Punahou School.
