Softball places five on All-UAA squad

All-UAA Softball Selections Marley Felder, Jolie Fujita, Sydney Goldman, Lily Medici and Melissa Rothenberg

WALTHAM, Mass. – Five members of the Brandeis University softball team have been honored with All-University Athletic Association honors. The UAA is only recognizing All-Conference this year without differentiating between first and second teams.

Sophomore infielder Marley Felder of Miami, Florida, was honored for the second year in a row. In the Judges' six games, Felder led the squad in batting average at .409 - tied for sixth in the UAA - hits with nine and RBI with seven. She also led the team with a .458 on-base percentage and was third with a .500 slugging percentage. She hit safely in five of six contests with three multi-hit games. In a doubleheader sweep of Whitter College, Felder went 5-9 with six RBI, two doubles, and two runs scored as the team won 7-3 and 13-8.  Felder played third base for the Judges.

Junior shortstop Jolie Fujita of Honolulu, Hawaii, also earned All-Association honors for the second-straight year. Fujita was second on the Judges in batting average (.381), on-base percentage (.435) and slugging percentage (.571). She hit 8-for-21, driving in five runs and scoring seven. Fujijta had a double and a home run and added two stolen bases. She hit safely in four of six games, with three multi-hit games. Her top performance came in a doubleheader split with Occidental College, when she had four hits in six at-bats, scoring four runs and driving in two. She had a double and a home run in the second came, though the Judges dropped a 5-4 decision.

Sophomore pitcher Sydney Goldman of Sherman Oaks, California, was also honored for the second-straight season. Goldman went 2-1 with a pair of complete games in four appearances, finishing with a 3.00 earned-run average. She threw 21 innings and struck out 16, finishing fourth in the UAA with 5.33 strikeouts per seven innings. Goldman's top performance was a complete-game five-hitter against Occidental in which she struck out eight for her first win of the season.

Junior center fielder Melissa Rothenberg of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, was honored by the UAA for the first time. She led the team with two home runs, two doubles, nine runs scored and a .700 hitting percentage. Rothenberg finished tied for second in the UAA in homers and fifth in slugging, while her nine runs were ninth in the league. Rothenberg hit safely in all six Brandeis games, scoring runs in five of them. In the team's 13-8 win over Whitter, she crossed the plate four times, including a solo home run and a bases-loaded walk.

First-year outfielder Lily Medici of New City, New York, rounded out the All-UAA selection for the Judges. She hit .350 out of the leadoff spot in the lineup, third-highest on the team. She drove in two runs and scored seven – second-most on the squad. Medici had three two-hit games and scored runs in three of them.

Under interim head coach Emily Kraytenberg, the Brandeis softball team went 3-3 on its spring trip to California, before returning home to have the remainder of their season called off due to the coronavirus.

Felder is a 2018 graduate of American Heritage School.

Fujita is a 2017 graduate of Punahou Academy.

Goldman is a 2018 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Rothernberg is a 2017 graduate of Lawrence High School.

Medici is a 2019 graduate of Clarkstown North High School.
