WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University women's basketball
team took an 85-58 University Athletic Association (UAA) decision
tonight behind a season-high 25 points from junior Jaime Capra (Old
Bridge, N.J.).
The Brandeis women (12-2, 2-2 UAA, No. 16 WBCA, No. 17 d3hoops.com)
closed the first half on a 24-2 run over the final 6:24 to blow
open a two-point game. The Judges opened the second on an
additional 11-2 skein to go ahead by a 55-22 margin and cruised
from there.
Capra scored her 25 points in just 28 minutes, hitting nine-of-15
from the floor, including four-of-five from beyond the arc. She
also led all players with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Lauren
Orlando (Peabody, Mass.) added 13 points, hitting four-of-five from
the floor and five-of-six from the line. Five different Judges
dished at least four assists, with rookie reserve Lauren Rashford
(Whitesboro, N.Y.) leading the way with five helpers. The Judges
shot a season-high 51.8 percent from the floor (29-56) and
outrebounded the Spartans, 54-20, their largest margin of the
year.
Case (8-7, 0-4 UAA) put three players in double figures, paced by
14 from sophomore Colleen Martin (Rocky River, Ohio) off the bench.
Junior guard LaVonne Sherald (Pickerington, Ohio) and junior
forward Ashley Horton (Akron, Ohio) each had 10 points for the
Spartans. Horton also led the team with four assists, while Sherald
had four steals.
