Capra named ECAC women's basketball Player of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Jaime Capra of Old Bridge, N.J., was been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

Capra had previously been honored as an honorable-mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for the second year in a row. She joins Caitlin Malcolm '07 as the only two-time All-Americans in Brandeis women's basketball history.

Capra had also been a first-team All-New England selection by the WBCA and by d3hoops.com. Capra, the Co-Player of the Year in the University Athletic Association and a first-team All-UAA member for the third-straight season, led the Brandeis women in scoring and rebounding by averaging 15.2 points and 6.6 boards per game. She was second in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding. She also placed in the top 10 in the UAA in free-throw percentage (5th, 72.5%) and assists (7th, 2.74 apg). Capra was the team's leading scorer in 16 of their 27 contests, scoring 20 points in a game six times and recording three double-doubles.

Capra led the Judges to a 19-8 record and a third-straight trip the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament. Capra led her team to a stirring first-round upset of the University of Southern Maine, 74-71, as the Judges rallied from 14 points down with just under seven minutes remaining. Her 3-pointer with 1:56 left in regulation was part of a 19-point second half and put Brandeis ahead for good. The next night, the Judges dropped their second-round contest to host Kean University, 95-61.

Capra finished her career as Brandeis's second all-time leading scorer with 1,393 points. She also finished in the Judges' career top-10 in 3-pointers (3rd, 103) rebounding (7th, 558) and assists (9th, 213).

Capra is a 2004 graduate of Old Bridge High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Diane Capra, Old Bridge, N.J.
