WELLESLEY, MA (taken from a Wellesley College press release)
– Brandeis University senior Jamie Capra (Old Bridge, N.J.)
became just the eighth woman in Judges’ history to net 1,000
career points as the Judges defeated Wellesley College 70-37 on
Tuesday evening in Wellesley.
Capra scored four of the Judges’ points in the first minute
and a half as Brandeis jumped out to an early seven-point lead.
After trading jumpers, Wellesley cut the lead to five with a lay-up
from Julia Thomas (Concord, CA) at the 16-minute mark. The
five-point deficit was the closest that Wellesley would come to
Brandeis as the Judges took a 44-13 point lead into the locker
room.
In the second half, Wellesley cut the Brandeis lead to 47-17 on a
lay-up from Nicole Labbee (Florence, MA) with 17 to play. However,
the Judges’ answered back with a 7-1 run to put them ahead by
37 with 10 minutes still to play in the half. Despite 10 second
half points from Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK), the Brandeis
lead proved to be too much for the Blue to overcome as Wellesley
fell 70-37.
Capra led Brandeis with a game-high 15 points. Three other
Judges’ finished in double digits with Jessica Chapin
(Mendon, NY), Lauren Orlando (Peabody, MA) and Cassidy Dadaos
(Healdsburg, CA) each adding ten points apiece.
Duff led Wellesley with a double-double finishing with 14 points
and 10 rebounds. Thomas chipped in with 10 points and seven
boards.
Brandeis (2-1) will return to the court on Sunday at 1:00pm as
they
host Tufts University. Wellesley (1-1) is back in action on the
road on
Tuesday, November 20 to take on Rhode Island College at 7:00pm.
