ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Brandeis University women's basketball team dropped its third-straight contest tonight, falling by a 74-51 margin at the University of Rochester in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. Brandeis falls to 12-11 overall, 6-6 in the UAA. Rochester improves to 10-13, 4-8 UAA.
The Judges, who had edged the Yellowjackets, 58-57, in Waltham earlier this season, struggled on offense, as they failed to have a player score in double figures for the first time all season. Rookie Paris Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) led the way with nine points on 3-of-7 from the field and 3-of-6 from the line. No other Brandeis player had more than two field goals or two free throws. Senior Janelle Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans) added seven points thanks to one of the team's two 3-pointers on the night. The Judges were also outrebounded by a 42-30 margin, marking the first time they were on the wrong end of that statistics since the last time these two squads met nine games ago. Brandeis senior Angela Miller (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) led the Judges with five caroms.
Rochester had three players score in double figures, with Loren Wagner recording game-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds, hitting a career-high 12 free throws in the process. Danielle McNabb notched 15 points and Kelsey Hurley had 11 for the home team. Tylar Guerreri also pulled down 10 caroms for UR. The 'Jackets hit 44 percent from the field for the game (23-52), while holding Brandeis to 37 percent (18-52). After both sides shot an identical 11-29 from the field in the first half, UR connected on 52 percent (12-23) in the second while holding the Judges to 30 percent (7-23). Rochester built a 35-24 first-half lead by outscoring Brandeis 10-1 from the line and connecting on two additional 3-pointers. Brandeis owned a 16-14 lead early in the contest when Rochester scored 10 unanswered points over a seven-minute span to take the lead for good.
Brandeis returns to action on Sunday afternoon at Emory University at 2 p.m. UR hosts NYU at the same time.
