Women can't hang on against UAA-leading Chicago, 86-69

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team led host Chicago by as many as seven points in the first half, but the Maroons scored 16 unanswered points and never looked back as the Maroons defeated the Judges, 86-69, in a University Athletic Association contest tonight. The loss drops the Judges to 13-10 overall, 5-7 in the UAA. Chicago maintained its one-game lead in the UAA as they improve to 17-7, 10-1 UAA.

Brandeis went ahead, 18-11, on a Heather Cain (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) 3-pointer at the 11:47 mark to take their largest lead of the game. Chicago held the Judges scoreless for the next four-plus minutes as the Maroons rattled of 16 in a row to take a 27-18 lead. Brandeis would get within five points later in the first half, but UC closed strongly to take a 44-30 lead into the locker room. The Maroons' lead ballooned as large as 31 points midway through the second half before a late Brandeis run close the gap to the final 17-point deficit.

The Judges had one player score in double figures, as sophomore Paris Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) notched 15 points off the bench. Classmate Maria Hodges (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds.

Chicago had four players in double figures in scoring: Morgan Donovan with a game-high 18 points and six assists; Claire Devaney with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds; Caitlin Moore with 14 points and Ellie Greiner with 10 points off the bench. Chicago outshot Brandeis for the game, 56% (34-61) to 39% (24-62.
