CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis women's basketball team went on the road for the first time in the University Athletic Association tonight and the Judges were on the wrong end of a 62-55 decision at the University of Chicago. The Maroons used a 20-5 second quarter as they improved to 10-4, 3-1 in the UAA, while the Judges fell to 10-4, 2-2 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis opened the game strong, scoring eight of the first 10 points thanks to a pair of Frankie Pinto (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) 3-pointers.
• The Judges stayed even or ahead of Chicago for much of the first period, leading 14-12 after an Eva Hart (Manasquan, N.J. / Manasquan) lay-up at the 2:44 mark.
• The Maroons took their first lead on a Madison Dunbar trifecta on the next possession and added an Olariche Obi lay-up late in the stanza to take a 17-14 lead after 10 minutes.
• The second period proved to be the difference in the contest, as UC hit 10-of-18 from the field (55.6%) while holding the Judges to 2-13 (15.4%) as the hosts outscored Brandeis, 20-5.
• Chicago had a balanced attack in the period, with Britta Nordstrom scoring six points and Miranda Burt adding four with five other Maroons scoring one bucket each.
• Trailing 37-19 at the half, the Judges stayed within shouting distance in the third by outscoring the hosts 13-10, with senior Paris Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) pouring in nine of the Judges' 13 points.
• Down 15 to start the period and by 17 with just 6:48 left in regulation, the Judges tried to mount a comeback. A 10-3 run over the next three minutes got Brandeis within 10 on a Hodges jumper.
• The lead was still 10 after a Miranda Burton free throw with 1:19 left, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Noel Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and Pinto around a UC foul shot made it 60-55 with 38 seconds left.
• Chicago hit 1-of-2 on the ensuing possession from the stripe, but the Judges were unable to take advantage, as one more foul shot closed out the scoring.

FOR THE JUDGES

• Brandeis had three starters score in double digits. Pinto and Paris Hodges were tied for team-high honors with 15 point each, while senior Maria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) added 12.
• Jackson finished one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season with nine rebounds, while also contributing five steals and two blocked shots.
• Hodges had eight rebounds and a team-high four assists.

FOR THE MAROONS

• Chicago also had three starters score in double digits, with Burt leading all scorers with 17 points thanks to four 3-pointers.
• Nordstrom (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Obi (11 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.
• The trio combined for 15 of the Maroons' 23 baskets, hitting 56 percent for the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Brandeis owned a 39-37 lead in rebounding, including 13-11 on the offensive glass, but Chicago was able to convert their second chances into 15 points to just eight for the Judges.
• The Maroons also had a 14-5 edge in bench scoring.
