Women's fencing goes 3-2 at FDU to close regular season

TEANECK, N.J. – The Brandeis women's fencing team closed out the dual meet portion of its season today at the Farleigh Dickinson University Invitational. The Judges went 3-2 on the day against a combination of veteran and new fencing programs. The Judges posted wins over host FDU (17-10), Long Island University (19-8) and Wagner (20-7), while suffering a pair of narrow losses to Johns Hopkins (11-16) and Drew (13-14).

The epee squad had the best performance of the day for the Judges, going 5-0, including a 9-0 win over Wagner and 7-2 wins over Hopkins and LIU. Rookie Madeleine Vibert (Las Vegas, Nev. / West Career and Tech. Academy) led all Brandeis fencers with 10 wins on the day against just three losses. Classmates Jamie Noh (New York, N.Y. / Brearley) and Jessica Spear (Spofford, N.H. / Keene) each went 9-4.

The foil squad went 4-1 on the day, suffering only a 4-5 loss to Johns Hopkins. Junior Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) led the squad with a 7-1 record, while sophomore Hannah Mui (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solesbury) was 6-4.

The saber squad was winless on the day, with senior Laura Broffman (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) picking up five wins.

The Judges are next in action on Sunday, March 11, when Brandeis's Gosman Sports and Convocation plays host to the NCAA Northeast Regional.
