PITTSBURGH, Pa. (taken from a CMU press release) – Rookie forward Abby Coffin (Pittsburgh, Pa.) provided a boost off the bench for the Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team tonight, scoring twice just before halftime to pace the Tartans en route to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Brandeis University Judges. The Tartans up their record to 9-0-2, 3-0 UAA, while the Judges drop to 6-5-1, 1-2 UAA.

Coffin’s first goal came off a corner by sophomore defender Amanda Rose (Arvada, Colo.). Coffin headed Rose’s corner into the right corner of the net with 7:16 left in the first half to put the Tartans on the board. Coffin didn’t waste any time scoring again, as she found the net with 4:00 left in the half. She dribbled into an opening and blasted a shot from 20 yards out that found a seam between Brandeis goalie Betsey Medow (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and the right post. Coffin’s two goals give her a team-high nine on the season.

The Tartans held a 20-8 advantage in the shot department for the game. Tartan freshman goalie Christie Adams (Kingsville, Md.) recorded three saves to improve to 5-0 for the season. Adams made a sliding save off a shot by Brandeis’ Meredith Milstein (Waterford, MI) with less than five minutes to go in the game to help preserve her shutout. Medow made six saves for the Judges’ in the loss.

Brandeis heads to Atlanta next to face Emory University at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
