WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Rochester women's
soccer team scored once in each half to defeat host Brandeis
University, 2-0, in the University Athletic Association (UAA)
opener for both teams tonight.
Rochester (5-3, 1-0 UAA) opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
Senior forward Ali Streeter (Fulton, N.Y.) slotted a ball to
classmate Tammy Brewster (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), who knocked it home
for her third goal of the season. Brandeis (6-2-1, 0-1 UAA) outshot
Rochester, 7-6 for the half, but were unable to find the back of
the net.
The Yellowjackets added an insurance goal in the 74th minute.
Following a UR corner kick, the ball was deflected around the front
of the goalie box before rookie back Meaghan Magee (Rochester,
N.Y.) sent it home for her first score of the season. Rochester
controlled the second half, outshooting the Judges, 7-4, to finish
with a 13-11 advantage.
Brandeis sophomore Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) suffered
the loss despite making four saves. Rochester senior Molly Leitch
(Rocky River, Ohio) also had four stops for her third shutout of
the campaign.
Both teams are in non-conference action for their next contest.
Brandeis travels to Tufts University on Wednesday at 4 p.m., while
Rochester kicks off a five-game home-stand against SUNY-Geneseo on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
