Gorenkoff scores twice to lead women's soccer past Wellesley, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore forward Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) scored two goals in the first half tonight to lead the Judges past visiting Wellesley College, 3-0, on Gordon Field.

Brandeis (4-1-1) dominated play, outshooting Wellesley (3-2-1) by a 23-3 margin. Gorenkoff gave the Judges all the scoring they would need in the 16th minute when rookie forward Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass.) slotted a through ball to free her teammate one on the goalie.

Gorenkoff added her second goal just over 15 minutes later when she juked a defender and blasted a ball to the far side of the net. It was the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.

The Judges added a goal with just 36 ticks left on the clock when late substitute Amy King (Merrimack, N.H.) pounced on a ball that Pacheco chipped to the end line. King put it home for her firs of the season.

Brandeis sophomore Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded her second shutout of the season with one save, while Wellesley netminder Katie Martore (Great Falls, Va.) had eight stops in the losing effort.

Brandeis is next in action on Thursday afternoon at Gordon College for a 4 p.m. contest, while Wellesley hosts the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in their NEWMAC opener at the same time.
