BABSON PARK, Mass. (courtesy Babson College sports
info)-- Junior Patty Pytlik (Wellesley, Mass.) scored the
game-winning goal with just under 20 minutes remaining in
regulation to lead the host Babson College Beavers to a 1-0 win
over visiting Brandeis University Judges in a non-conference
women's soccer contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Wednesday
afternoon. With the win, the Beavers evened their record at 2-2 on
the year, while the Judges fell for the first time to drop to
2-1.
Babson had the best chance of the scoreless first half, as
sophomore Annie Kenney (Weston, Mass.) found herself free on the
left side of the box. The second-year midfielder then hit a curling
shot toward the far upper corner, but Brandeis senior goalie
Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish
River) tipped it off the crossbar and out to keep the Beavers off
the board.
Brandeis had two great scoring chances midway through the second,
but Babson junior keeper Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) came up
with a pair of clutch saves. With 24 minutes remaining in the
period, junior Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth,
Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Reg.) hit a rocket from 30 yards out that
Macary was able to tip off the crossbar. Judges' sophomore
Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) followed up
with a header off the rebound, but Macary recovered in time to make
an easy catch.
The Beavers finally took the lead at 70:07, as the ball caromed out
of a scrum to Pytlik at the 18. Babson's leading scorer then ripped
a bending one-time shot just out of Rosenzweig's reach and inside
the left post for the game's first goal. It was Pytlik's team-best
fourth goal of the season.
Macary finished with six saves in net for Babson, while Rosenzweig
turned away eight shots for Brandeis, two shy of her career high
and tied for her second-highest single game total.
