Vallone named UAA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior forward Sofia Vallone of Westport, Conn., has been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 26.

Vallone, a co-captain, guided the Judges to a 2-0 week with four goals – including two game-winners - and an assist. She had a pair of multiple-goal games, her second and third of her career, all coming this season.

In a 3-1 win over Gordon College on Sept. 23, after the Fighting Scots had taken the lead in the 51st minute, Vallone tied the game less than 90 seconds later and scored the game-winner 2:21 after that. In a 5-0 win over Simmons College on Sept. 26, Vallone ignited a Brandeis flurry of four goals in the first six minutes by scoring just 2:13 into the contest. She also assisted the Judges' second goal at 3:59 and capped the outburst with a goal at the 5:57 mark.

Vallone is now tied for the UAA lead with eight goals and leads the Association with three game-winners. For her career, Vallone has 19 goals and five assists for 43 points. As a team, the Judges are 6-1-1 on the campaign and ranked fourth in New England.

Vallone is a 2007 graduate of Staples High School. She is the daughter of Joseph and Caryn Vallone, Westport, Conn.
