Pacheco, Mimi Theodore lead Judges past RWU, 6-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior forward Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) matched her career-highs with three assists and five points, while junior forward Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored the game's first two goals as the Judges defeated visiting Roger Williams University, 6-0, on Gordon Field tonight.

Brandeis (4-1-1) opened the scoring in the eighth minute as Pacheco and Theodore combined for what proved to be the game-winner. Pacheco bent a corner kick into the box that Theodore headed home for her second goal of the season. Theodore registered her third-career multiple-goal game less than three minutes later. Senior midfielder Ellie Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Park) sent a ball over the defense that Theodore ran down and put in the back of the net. The Judges added a third goal just under three minutes before the half when rookie Madeline Stein (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) took a feed from classmate Hilary Andrews (New Bedford, Mass./ Dartmouth) just outside the box and lofted it over the outstretched arms of Roger Williams (2-3) netminder Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park).

Pacheco added her third goal of the season 5:24 into the second half when she broke down a Hawk defender and beat sophomore Kristen Darling (Weymouth, Mass./ Weymouth) just under the crossbar. In the 63rd minute, junior Alanna Torre (Weston, Fla./American Heritage School) got in the scoring act. Senior forward Sofia Vallone (Westport, Conn.) sent a terrific through-ball that Pacheco ran down and sent across the goal-mouth, where Torre tapped it home for her first of the season. The Judges closed out the scoring less than three minutes later, when Vallone scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a nice cross from Pacheco.

With her three helpers this afternoon, Pacheco moves into a tie for second place on the Judges' career list with 23, five behind former teammate Melissa Gorenkoff '09. Pacheco also vaulted into eighth on Brandeis's career points list with 71, moving her one point behind Gorenkoff and putting her well within reach of the top five. Pacheco's 24 goals are 10th in school history.

Sophomore goalie Francine Kofinas (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) had four saves in the first half, including a couple of athletic diving stops, while rookie Leah Sax (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) had two saves in the second. McGee finished with three saves for the Hawks, while Darling had one.

Brandeis is off for a week, as the Judges next host Gordon College on Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. RWU also plays Gordon in their next contest, a TCCC matchup in Wenham, Mass., this Saturday at n
