Win streak snapped as #20 Brandeis women’s soccer gets blanked by Rochester, 2-0

The #20 Brandeis women's soccer team (11-2-0, 1-1) traveled to the University of Rochester (5-4-3, 1-1) in a University Athletics Association conference contest but left with their second loss of the year.  Despite outshooting the Yellowjackets 11-7, the Judges weren't able ton convert any of them. The last time they were shutout was the first game of the season against MIT, which was the only other opponent to have beaten the Judges.

In the first half, the Judges and the Yellowjackets traded momentum but Rochester got the better of the chances. The two best chances of the half for Rochester came from freshman Laura Cowie-Haskell (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) and sophomore Kim Stagg (Winter Springs, FL/Winter Springs) when they each had a header hit the crossbar within minutes of each other. Luckily for the Judges, the score remained tied at halftime, 0-0.

The second half started like the first ended with the Yellow Jackets owning most of the possession time. Brandeis's best chance of the game was a chip shot by sophomore Lea McDaniel (Phoenix, Ariz./Chaparral) to an almost empty net but went a little too high. Cowie-Haskell for Rochester got the first goal of the game in the 58th minute when Brandeis sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) came out to challenge the play but wasn't able to make the stop.  The nail in the coffin for the Judges came at 78:55 when freshman Carolina Manent (Mount Kisco, NY/Yorktown) put home a loose ball in the box.

The tandem pair of goalies for Brandeis, Grossman and senior Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) only faced 3 total shots. Savuto saved the only shot she faced while Grossman was 0 for 2. For the Yellowjackets, senior Aubrey Jaicks (Mars, PA/Shady Side Academy) was solid in net stopping all four shots she faced.

The Judges take six days off until they play another UAA conference team, Carnegie Mellon, at home on October 17th at 7:30pm to start Homecoming Weekend at Brandeis. Rochester takes on the University of Chicago on October 17th at 7:30pm
