WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University women's soccer senior Holly Szafran (Homewood, Ala./Newton North (Mass.) registered two goals and an assist tonight as she helped the Judges knock off Westfield State University, 3-1, on Gordon Field. With the win, the Judges' senior class now has 52 for their career, setting a program record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Szafran opened things up in the 18^th minute. She displayed some fancy footwork to dribble past two defenders and took a left-footed shot to the far post that found the left netting.
• In the 39^th minute, Szafran connected with senior Alec Spivack (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) on a through-ball. Spivack had an easy chip to give the Judges some breathing room.
• The Owls had just two shots on the evening, but their second went in in the 63^rd minute.Senior Kelsey Murray (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) curled a shot from the end-line to the left of the goal just under the crossbar.
• Brandeis pushed their lead back to two goals in the 79^th minute, when sophomore Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) used her speed to beat a defender to the end line. She sent a cross to Szafran, who deposited it into the open net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Brandeis outshot WSU, 27-2, including 5-1 in shots on goal.
• Szafran's five-point performance was the Judges' best of the season.
• It was her third career two-goal game and first since her sophomore season, when she scored a career-high six points on two goals and two assists in a win over Clark on Sept. 1, 2013.
• Her two goals moved her into the team lead and into second place in the University Athletic Association with six scores overall. She is also now third in the UAA with 18 points.
• Szafran now has 17 goals and 17 assists for her career. She moves into a sixth-place tie on Brandeis's career assist list and is one of only seven players in school history with 17 of each.
• Spivack got credit for her third game-winning goal in the last four contests for the Judges.
• Rookie Natalia Falcone (Sutton,Mass./Sutton) had two saves for the Owls, while rookie Emma Marx (Kildeer, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) saw just one shot on goal in her first collegiate start – the goal by Murray.

THE SENIORS

• The Brandeis Class of 2016 now has 52 career victories, surpassing the Class of 2011.
• The Judges have been to two NCAA tournaments and one ECAC tournament. The '11 squad won two ECAC titles and made the program's first NCAA berth in more than 20 years as seniors in 2010.
• No other Brandeis senior class has won more than 50 games.
• This is the third squad to finish with four-straight 10-win seasons, joining the classes of 2010 and 2011.
• In addition to Szafran and Spivack, the other seniors are MF Allyson Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest); MF Mathilde Robinson (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto); GK Katy Lehmann (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek); MF Chelsea Van Bausch (Loganville, Ga. / Grayson); D Haley Schachter (West Barnstable, Mass. / West Barnstable); and F Melissa Darling (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth)

TEAM RECORDS

• Brandeis is now 13-2-1 on the season. The Judges are ranked No. 12 in Division III by the NSCAA, No. 13 by D3soccer.com.
• Brandeis finishes their non-conference slate with an 11-0-1 record. Their final three games are all in the UAA.
• Brandeis has now won all seven meetings with Westfield State.
• Westfield State falls to 7-6-1.

• The Judges are off for nine days until they head to Emory on Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. and the University of Rochester on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.
