#25 women's soccer downs Lasell, 4-0, on Team IMPACT signing day

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team, ranked No. 25 in Division III, scored twice in each half today as the Judges handled their local rivals from Lasell College, 4-0. Brandeis improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Lasers fall to 0-2. After the match, Brandeis signed seven-year-old Annelizabeth Jeanbaptiste to the roster, courtesy Team IMPACT.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges got all the scoring they would need in the 14th minute, when senior forward Julia Matson (Rockland, Mass. / Rockland) one-timed a flick from rookie Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass. / Tyngsborough). It was the first goal of the season for Matson and Hunt's second assist.
  • In the 40th minute, junior Katie Hayes (Eau Claire, Wisc. / Regis H.S.) scored for the second-straight game, finishing a nice pass through the box by classmate Emma Spector (Needham, Mass. / Needham).
  • Sophomore midfielder Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass. / Central Catholic) made it 3-0 in the 58th minute when her initial shot on a corner was cleared off the line, but she was able to rocket home the rebound.
  • Senior Julia Jaffe (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) closed out the scoring in the 65th minute, punching home a cross from rookie Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional).

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandeis dominated the box score, outshooting Lasell, 40-2, including 21-0 in shots on goal The Judges also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Lasell goalie Angela Sanzari made 12 saves in the first 72 minutes, while reserve Kyla Bragg had three stops in the final 18.
  • Juniors Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) and Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn. / Tolland) were untested for the Judges in net, with each playing a half.

AFTER THE GAME

  • The Judges added seven-year-old Annelizabeth Jeanbaptiste via Team IMPACT following the game.
  • Annelizabeth suffers from sickle cell anemia.
  • Women's soccer marks the sixth Brandeis squad joining with Team IMPACT, joining men's soccer, baseball, softball and men's and women's swimming and diving.
  • Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched nearly 1,600 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 50,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
