#11/14 women's soccer defeats Tufts in overtime, 2-1

MEDFORD, Mass. – In a battle of undefeated Division III women's soccer teams, the visiting Brandeis University Judges convert a PK in overtime to defeat host Tufts University, 2-1, on Kraft Field. With the win, the Judges – ranked 11^th in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches and 14^th by D3soccer.com – improve to 6-0 on the campaign. The Jumbos, ranked 21^st by D3soccer.com, fall to 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis opened the scoring in the 15^th minute, when junior back Amanda Fernbach (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) netted her first career goal. Fernbach's goal was just out of the reach of Tufts goalkeeper Emily Bowers. It was the first goal of Fernbach's career.
• Judge junior Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) made two saves in the first stanza.
• In the second half, Tufts turned up the pressure, outshooting Brandeis, 10-3, after the Judges earned a 9-6 edge in the first half.
• The Jumbos broke through in the 69^th minute with a give-and-go goal by Liz Reed as Sophie Lloyd picked up the assist.
• The goal came against Brandeis junior Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), who made two stops
• Dana returned to the game in the 80^th minute and made two more saves each in regulation and the overtime session.
• Brandeis won the game in the 97^th minute after drawing a foul in the box. Sophomore Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Catholic Central) put the ensuing penalty kick just inside the left post to score her third goal of the season and second career game-winner.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Tufts outshot Brandeis, 18-14, for the game, after the Judges held a 9-6 edge through 45 minutes.
• Brandeis had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks, with all six coming in the first half.
• Dana earned the win with her six saves in 61 minutes of play. Richardson had two stops in 35 minutes.
• Tufts' Bowers had seven stops in the losing effort.
• The Jumbos had not surrendered a goal in their first five matches of the season. They were one of three teams that were unscored upon entering the game.
• The squads were two of the last 13 unbeaten and untied teams in Division III this season.
• Brandeis improved to 3-0-2 in the last five meetings with Tufts. The previous two contests had been 1-1 draws.
