WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore forward Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) netted her first career multiple-goal game tonight to lead the Brandeis University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University in the Judges' home opener on Gordon Field. With the win, the Judges improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 0-1.

After the start of the match was delayed by 45 minutes due to lightning, the Judges needed just over 12 minutes to get on the board. After getting off the first seven shots of the game, Carreiro opened the scoring in the 13th minute when she stole the ball from a BSU defender and dribbled in alone on Bear netminder Kellie Souza, shooting into the lower-right netting.

Brandeis doubled the lead in the 34th minute as a pair of first-year players combined for their first collegiate points. Rookie midfielder Jessica Herman (Plantation, Fla. / NSU University School) crossed a ball from the right side of the box, and forward and classmate Morgan Clark (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) was there to punch it home for her first collegiate score.

The Judges closed out the scoring in the 50th minute. Junior midfielder Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Central Catholic) served a ball from the right sideline, and Carreiro was there to chip it over Souza for her second goal of the game and the third of her career.

For the game, Brandeis outshot Bridgewater State, 35-7, including 17-4 in shots on goal. Souza finished with 13 saves for the visitors, with the BSU defense clearing one off the line. Brandeis senior Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) made three saves in the first 80-plus minutes of action, while sophomore Rebecca Gold (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) made one fine diving stop in her 9-plus minutes.

With the win, the Judges improve to 10-2-1 all-time against Bridgewater State, including six in a row. The Judges have won five-straight home openers.

Brandeis returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. match at Johnson and Wales University. Bridgewater State hosts 20th-ranked MIT Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
