WALTHAM, Mass. - For the second time this season, the Brandeis Judges see the end of a four-game winning streak, this time at the hands of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans. On homecoming weekend, the Judges faced off against the Tartans in the UAA opener for both teams. A 5th-minute unassisted goal by Alex Adams, would put the Tartans ahead and prove the deciding strike as well. With the loss, Brandeis moves to 8-3 (0-1-0) on the season, while the Tartans improve to 7-2-1 (1-0-0).

The early goal was Adams' 8th of the season and would be the downfall for the Judges. After a turnover inside the box, the ball landed at Adams' feet and she knocked it in the top right corner. The goal was the first conceded by Brandeis and Junior Goalkeeper Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) in five games.

The teams played to the second half with nearly identical stats, besides the goal. Both teams finished with five shots apiece in the first half, while the Tartans had one corner kick to Brandeis' zero. Much like the first half, the second stanza was a physical affair on both sides, neither team wanting to give an inch. The goalies on either side showed their mettle with big saves throughout the game, Richardson finished with five saves, while Tartan goalie Andrea Sipos stopped six shots.

The physicality would peak with Carnegie Mellon being handed a yellow card in the 84th minute. Both teams would finish the match with eight fouls. Offensively, the Judges just could not break through the Tartan defense. Senior Katie Hayes (Eau Claire, Wisc./Regis) led the team in shots with four, three of which were on goal. As a team, Brandeis would finish with six shots on goal, even with the Tartans who finished with six as well.

The Judges will look to get back to their winning ways against Case Western Reserve on Saturday the 12th, in Ohio for the first road UAA game of the season.
