OBERLIN, Ohio – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored two goals in less than three minutes today as the Judges knocked off Case Western Reserve University, 2-0, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest played at Oberlin College today. With the win, the Judges improve to 9-3, 1-1 in the UAA, while the Spartans – ranked #16 in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches and #22 by D3soccer.com – fall to 10-2, 0-2 UAA.

The Judges' two goals came on very similar plays. In the 13th minute, sophomore forward Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass./Tyngsborough) crossed a ball from the left of the box to classmate Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional). Carreiro buried the cross for her seventh goal of the season, tying Hunt for the team lead. In the 16th minute, Hunt again fed the ball through the box from the left side, and this time it was junior midfielder Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Central Catholic) who was on the receiving end to find the back of the net. The goal was Bakhtiari's fourth of the season. Hunt's two assists give her four on the season, as she and Carreiro are now tied for the team lead in scoring, with each boasting 18 points on seven goals and four assists. The duo is tied for fifth in the UAA in scoring.

That was all the offense the Judges would need. They outshot the hosts, 7-2, in the first half, then hung on as shots were even at 6-all in the second, giving Brandeis a 13-8 margin for the game. Brandeis owned a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and committed 13 fouls to 9 for CWRU. Judge senior goalkeeper Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) had four stops to register her third solo shutout of the season and the team's eighth overall. Case Western Reserve's Lauren Unterborn had five stops in the losing effort.

The win is the Judges' first in three attempts against a nationally-ranked foe. They will get two more top-25 squads next weekend in a pair of UAA home games, starting with #11/11 Chicago on Friday evening at 5 p.m., followed by #5/5 Washington U. on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
