WALTHAM, Mass. – Recent Brandeis University women's soccer graduate Mackenzie Smith of Northborough, Massachusetts, and rising senior Juliette Carreiro of Upton, Massachusetts, have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-District team for the 2020-21 school year. With this honor, both are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade-point average and be a significant contributor to their team.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
Smith, a defender, played in 56 of a possible 58 games in her career, starting all but one. She scored three goals for six points, including an overtime game-winner as a sophomore in a battle of nationally-ranked teams against MIT. Smith anchored a back line that led Brandeis to back-to-back NCAA Division III tournament berths in 2017 and 2018. She graduated with a 3.89 grade-point average and degrees in biochemistry and biology.
Smith is a 2017 graduate of Algonquin Regional High School.
Carreiro, a forward, has played in all 35 games over two seasons of her career, starting 29 of them. She has nine career goals and seven assists for 25 points. She was a second-team All-University Athletic Association selection as a sophomore, when she led the Judges with eight goals and five assists for 21 points, ranking sixth in the league in points and seventh in goals. As a first-year player, she had a goal and two assists as the team qualified for a fifth-straight NCAA tournament. Off the field, Carreiro boasts a 4.00 GPA as a biology and psychology major. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior this year. She has been on the Dean's List every semester and participates with Brandeis's service organization, The Waltham Group, as part of their Companions to Elder Care program.
Carreiro is a 2018 graduate of Nipmuc Regional High School.
