BOSTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half today as the Judges defeated host Emerson College, 2-0, in Boston. The win lifts the Judges to 4-1-2 on the season, while the Lions fall to 3-2.

Brandeis got all the scoring they would need in the eighth minute. Junior Caroline Swan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine Richland) found senior forward Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional), and Carreiro buried her third goal of the season and the 12th of her career. It would prove to be her second game-winner of the campaign and the fourth of her career.

Despite controlling play for better of the second half, it took until the 80th minute for the Judges to find an insurance goal. Emerson was whistled for a hand-ball in the box, earning the Judges a penalty kick. Senior Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Central Catholic School) stepped over the ball and drove it home. It was Bakhtiari's second goal of the season and the 14th of her career as she improved to 3-for-3 in her career on PKs.

First-year goalkeeper Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla. / NSU University School) made two saves for her first career solo shutout. Emerson's Amara Schaub had eight saves for Emerson.

For the game, Brandeis outshot Emerson, 11-5. The Lions had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks, while Brandeis was whistled for six fouls to four for the home team.

Brandeis returns to action on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. contest against UMass Boston. Emerson travels to WPI next Saturday at 4 p.m. for their NEWMAC opener.
