Women suffer 3-1 loss to Emory

Atlanta, GA. – Senior Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) tied her career-high with her eighth goal of the season, but host Emory responded to win its ninth-straight game, 3-1, over the Judges in Atlanta today.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 6-6-1, 0-4-0 UAA.
  • Emory, 10-2-0, 4-0-0 UAA

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges were on the back  heel in the first half, as Emory scored the opening goal in the 16th minute and outshot Brandeis, 11-2.
  • Carreiro equalized just 21 seconds into the second half, netting her eighth of the campaign on an assist from senior Caroline Swan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine Richland), who sent a long ball that Carreiro ran onto after Emory lost control of the opening tap.
  • The Eagles scored seven minutes later to take the lead from the penalty spot after the Judges were whistled for a hand ball in the box, making the score, 2-1.
  • The hosts iced things with an 80th-minute goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • The Judges faced 23 to their 8 shots as the match total for corner kick was tied at an even 4-4.
  • In a tough match, the total number of fouls was also tied at 12 a piece with a greater number of them being in the second half.
  • Brandeis sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla. / NSU University School) saved 5 of the 8 shots faced.
