KEENE, N.H. -- The Brandeis women's swimming and diving team
earned its first dual-meet win of the season when the Judges
defeated Keene State College, 174-125. Junior Hollis
Viray (Glastonbury, Conn.) and rookie Angela
Chui (Toms River, N.J.) each won three individual events
and were part of a winning relay team.
For the second meet in a row, Chui established a new school record
in the 100-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 1:00.84. She
also captured the 200 back in 2:15.47 and the 500-yard freestyle
with a time of 5:32.74.
Viray was versatile in her three victories. She won the 1000-yard
freestyle (11:18.29), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.62) and the
200 individual medley (2:19.89).
The Judges also had two other multiple winners in rookie
Julia Derk (Greeley, Colo.) and junior
Rachel Sawicki (Wilmington, Del.). Derk earned her
first collegiate wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle events with
times of 56.21 seconds and 2:04.22, respectively. Sawicki won both
butterfly races, winning the the 100 in 1:01.91 and the 200 in
2:16.76. Sophomore Dana Simms (Rockville, Md.)
also earned a win in the three-meter diving event with a score of
172.50.
Chui, Sawicki and Viray also teamed with junior Siobhan
Lyons (Leominster, Mass.) to win the 400-yard free relay
with a time of 3:50.37.
